2009 COBA Tour of Homes

The COBA Tour of Homes is often the highlight of the summer in Central Oregon real estate.  This year, the event, sponsored by the Central Oregon Builders Association,  ran two weekends in July, and showcased 42 outstanding homes in Bend, Redmond, Powell Butte, and Sisters.  Even though the economy and the real estate market are decidedly different than the heyday years of 2003 through 2006, the tour still acted as a wonderful way to introduce “new design, and architectural and technical approaches to building, particularly in the realm of green building.”

The Offerings

Offerings ran the full gamut of Central Oregon real estate . . . from a 1234 square foot home in Redmond for $129,000, to a mid-range bungalow

and a unique green design in Northwest Crossing

to a magnificent almost 5000 square foot reclaimed barnwood masterpiece at Brasada Ranch priced at $3.485 million

The Lavish

Historically, the tour brings upward of 10,000 folks through individual properties in Central Oregon.  That was certainly the case this year at Brasada Ranch, as a continuous line of vehicles snaked (no pun intended!) through the Powell Butte resort community to check out the two highest priced properties on the tour.

The Deals

The jaunt to Brasada Ranch also yielded some unanticipated rewards for potential buyers.  The difficult market has made for some wonderful opportunities, as Central Oregon realtors dovetailed individual open houses with the usual tour format.  Some past tour winners (Best Kitchen, Best Architectural Design, Best Value) were featured at remarkable discounts (some more than 50%) and foreclosure pricing.
